About the Film

A group of musicians was filmed while improvising in an old factory hosting the exhibition Awake are only the spirits. Three days of documenting guitar driven improvised drones surrounded by the archives of Ghost Seers.

Besides the pure space itself, the specific artwork hosted in each individual room of the exhibition hall had a undeniable impact on the way the setting was audiovisually explored. The music spreads through the old factory creating a unique sound that resonates the building's history, while the cameras orbit each room to capture the musicians performing. Where once machines were filling the space, now art and music are telling a story, reflecting the building´s memory, documented in a series of binaural recordings.

Since Friedrich Juergenson‘s experiments with radio frequencies and the beatnik poets creating cut up poems on tape machines, questions were raised on the source of our inspiration and creativity. (in)SPIR(at)I(on)[T]S is an audiovisual cut up text poem in which recognized patterns, voices and noise fall into place and one question is raised: “What is inspiration?“
